卢浦大桥观光简介 LUPUBRIDGE INTRODUTION
The Lupu Bridge of Shanghai is the longest steel arch bridge in the world. Its 550-meter-long arch span is 32 meters longer than that of the New River Gorge Bridge in the US state of West Virginia.
The bridge is the first ever box-arch bridge in the world. The record-setting main arch is 9 meters high, 5 meters wide, with a navigate clearance capable of accommodating 70,000-ton vessels. It is also the first major arch bridge to be connected exclusively by welding (except for the single pair of middle sections which are joined by rivets), the length of on-site welding totals more than 40,000 meters—comparable to the total length of the inner-city elevated freeway of Shanghai.
Similar to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Lupu Bridge also functions as a sightseeing attraction. But unlike the Nanpu Bridge and Yangpu Bridge (also in Shanghai and cross the same Huangpu River), the viewing platform of the Lupu Bridge is installed at the top of its giant-bow-like arch lib, which not only greatly enhance the viewing scope, but also enable sightseers to enjoy the 300-step-plus walk up the “slope” along the arch rib, making the experience more interesting and unforgetable.
Sightseers are to take the high-speed transparent elevator up to the main deck of the bridge, walk up the steps of the pathway along the arch rib—the back of this “giant-bow”-- for about 280 meters, reaching the viewing platform about the size of a basketball field at top of the 100-meter high arch rib, and taking in the breath-taking scenary of the Huangpu River.
Just like the “crown” on the top of the bridge, the viewing platform is a prime spot for view the past, present and future of the site of World Expo 2010, as the bridge is situated on the site’s central axle.
